The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) requires certain employers to provide former employees and dependents who lose group health benefits with an opportunity to continue group health insurance coverage for a limited period of time. COBRA is a complex set of laws and regulations with many traps for the unwary, and mistakes can be costly. Employers are attempting to continue health coverage of employees during this unprecedented worldwide event, even where employees are furloughed or laid-off. However, it’s important to know what is permissible in terms of health coverage in these circumstances.

This presentation will cover:
1. COBRA guidelines and compliance issues
2. Guidelines of TAMRA
3. Practical direction for preventing common errors that could result in significant liability
4. Continuation coverage during COVID-19

Tammy will present for 60 minutes regarding the above topic. We devote the remainder of the time to Q&A and information regarding BASIC’s COBRA Service. BASIC’s webinar is approved for 1.0 HRCI and 1.0 SHRM-CP advanced credits for HR professionals worldwide. Credits are for live attendance only.
