Employee engagement is one of the most significant challenges and the employer will face. Poor supervisor / manager-employee relations affect productivity and can often lead to unnecessary employee complaints and investigation which can result in a Department of Labor claim or an employment practice civil rights complaint filed against an employer. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) requires certain employers to provide former employees and dependents who lose group health benefits with an opportunity to continue group health insurance coverage for a limited period of time. COBRA is a complex set of laws and regulations with many traps for the unwary, and mistakes can be costly.
