Beyond BASIC – charity: water

During the third quarter many companies regard this time as a slower season, but for BASIC, we ramp up. BASIC has always sponsored various volunteering events, charities, and donations; and this year we chose a nationwide fundraising campaign. The campaign we chose was  charity: water, a nonprofit organization that brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries. On average, 1:10 people worldwide, about double the United States population live without clean or safe drinking water. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or consume  time parents could use to earn money, but the water often carries diseases which  can make everyone sick. We knew we wanted to be a part of the change. Each of our offices collaborated to find ways to partake and raise money through different activities. Our goal was to raise $10,000 in the third quarter (July 1 – September 30).

As a company, we divided ourselves into office teams to compete to see who could raise the most money. We had a total of six teams nationwide and about 17 different fundraisers to reach our $10,000 goal. The activities ranged greatly from smaller raffles, can drives, and spare change bins, to bake sales, popcorn orders, and the most popular, “H2O on the CEO & Others”.  Some were more popular than others, but all had a successful outcome.

We steadily reached and exceeded our goal over the summer and raised a grand total of $10,347. By donating to this charity, we are helping people who live in rural areas in the world gain access to clean and safe drinking water that will systemically effect education, income, and health – especially for women and kids.
