AWS Outage Resolved

An Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage on Monday, October 20 made the internet and software that AWS powers unreliable for millions of people. The impact of the outage was felt worldwide, with many companies reporting issues with their website and apps including Venmo, Snapchat, Reddit and Adobe, as well as Amazon’s own Alexa and Ring services.

The AWS outage limited access to our administrative platforms and mobile app and caused BASIC Card transactions to decline for much of the day on Monday. Customers visiting our website or calling us were notified of the issues we were experiencing due to the outage.

By Monday evening, Amazon was reporting that services had returned to normal operations. BASIC’s connectivity with AWS is now fully restored and all our systems and processing have returned to normal operations. As we brought our systems back online following the outage we assessed all our data and financial transactions to ensure we have financial and data integrity and confidence.

While it is unfortunate that some of our customers may have been impacted by the outage for a few hours, BASIC worked closely with Amazon, Mastercard and our card processor to minimize the impact and restore our customers’ full access to our systems as quickly as possible.
